It is that time of year…

October 24th, 2010 by Camy

Well this weekend marks our first large weather event of the new fall/winter 2010 season.  As many of you who have lived in Seattle for a few years will know, we have seen a shift in the demeanor of the city.  Until we all get used to this weather more people seem to be on edge and depressed.  This marks my 7th season in Seattle and I say that we do not have to fall into this pattern!  Lets embrace the change and the weather and look at the bright side.  With the rain brings cleaner air and a cleaner city in general. It also means it is cold enough for warmer clothes which means the ability to layer and wear cute jackets.  Soon we will have snow in the mountains for all of you skiers and snowboarding extremists.

If you do feel that this time of year is not your favorite here are a few things that can help.   Always make sure you don’t use food as a crutch for emotions.  Too many carbs are always a bad thing!  Regular exercise is a great way to keep your body and emotions balanced. Aspira does have a great fitness center so take advantage of it. :-)   And finally, Get out of the house!!  Don’t let the rain constantly change your plans.  People and interactions always help me when I am feeling down.

Seattle,  The Emerald City,  is a great city and the rain is a part of that.  I personally am looking forward to seeing the rest of the leaves change, and then seeing if we get some snow this winter.  After that we can set our sights on spring and summer will be here before we know it!

2013- Street Car Idea- Capitol Hill and Broadway and Near Aspira!

April 26th, 2010 by admin

“A streetcar serving First Hill, Capitol Hill, and the International District, slated to be complete in 2013, should run up and down Broadway instead of along alternative routes to the east and west, Seattle Department of Transportation officials told Mayor Mike McGinn on March 17. While that’s not the absolute final word on the subject, Ethan Melone, manager of the project, says McGinn “thought that our recommendation made some sense.”….read more here in The Stranger.

New Waterfront Idea’s by Seattle’s Piers

April 26th, 2010 by admin

“City leaders have been squabbling over the waterfront for years—particularly since the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, which knocked the 50-year-old Alaskan Way Viaduct’s federal structural-sufficiency rating down to 9 points (out of 100). It became clear that what’s there must be demolished and replaced. But the game has changed. Whereas there seemed to be agreement in recent years on how to best replace the concrete hulk—when former mayor Greg Nickels and former King County executive Ron Sims struck a deal with the governor for a tunnel and the city council agreed to a deep-bore-tunnel option—those plans now seem more tenuous. Sims and Nickels are gone. So is city planner Ray Gastil, whom we poached from New York City because of his waterfront-planning accomplishments. Lawsuits are pending to block the tunnel. And newly elected leaders at City Hall have their own ideas about rebuilding the waterfront and investing in major transit infrastructure.”-The Stranger

For Sushi Lovers at Aspira

April 15th, 2010 by admin

This article we found in The Stranger might spark your interest.

“If you love sushi and you live in Seattle, you’ve been a little lost lately. Saito closed his Belltown place last summer. Shiro isn’t at Shiro’s much anymore; he sold all but a minority interest a couple years ago. Even if you could afford it, Taichi Kitamura’s $100-per-person prix fixe at Chiso Kappo is gone, too (though said to be reopening on Eastlake this summer). Who will be your sushi superhero now?”

Sushi Dave, is a veteran of many excellent restaurants in the Seattle Area such as SeaStar, who was the caterer of our grand opening party in March. Dave’s a third generation sushi chef and I believe after reading this article that it’s not something to be missed.
