Preview Chinese Films at the Central Library

Watch these free screenings of these movies this spring at the Central Library. The screenings are free and open to the public. Each featured film will be in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles.  Limited parking will be available at the Central Library for 5$ but it’s actually in walking distance from our Aspira building. “A Thousand Years of Good Prayers,” directed by Wayne Wang

“A film about a Chinese man who decides to visit his estranged daughter living in Spokane, Wash. after his wife dies. While visiting, he strikes up a friendship with an old Iranian woman; since neither speaks English well, they communicate with gestures and in their own languages. This film is based on the short story by Yiyun Li.”

“This is a film based on the Battle of the Red Cliff and other events during the end of the Han Dynasty; it takes place immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. In 208 A.D., the final days of the Han Dynasty, shrewd Prime Minster Cao Cao convinces the fickle Emperor Han the only way to unite China is to declare war on the kingdoms of Xu in the west, and East Wu in the south. Thus begins a military campaign of unprecedented scale, led by the Prime Minister, causing the two kingdoms to form an alliance. Numerous battles ensue on land and water, eventually culminating in the battle of Red Cliff.”

Ladies Night Poker Night

Ladies night at Club Heaven in pioneer square! For the ladies especially who want to learn how to play poker this is the night for you. Half priced drinks and instructions on how to play the game. It starts at 8:00pm and goes till 10:00pm- This Friday the 12th. $10, *Ladies only please until 10.

Pacific Northwest Ballet Announces return of “Cinderella”

In a statement released on Tuesday, the PNB announced they will return in 2010-11 with two full length ballets- “Cinderella” and “A Midsummer Nights Dream. ” The ballet is featured at the beautiful McCaw Hall near the Seattle Center.  For tickets and more information call 206-441-2424. Individual tickets go on sale in July.

Tonight! Game Night!

Tonight March 10th, is game night here at Aspira! Come join us on the eLevel for some fun and games. Festivities start at 7pm and will go till 9pm or later. We have Wii set up as well so feel free to bring your favorite games to play as well. We look forward to seeing you there!
